Grant's Old Mill Museum is located at 2777 Portage Ave., on the banks of Sturgeon Creek at the corner of Portage Ave. and Booth Dr.
We operate a flour mill using mill stones to demonstrate how wheat is ground into flour now and in the 1800's. The mill is a replica of one built by Cuthbert Grant in 1829 to help feed his Metis people.
We also teach the history of Cuthbert Grant (1793-1854), the fur trade and the fur trade wars of the early 1800's. Cuthbert Grant is considered to be the first leader of the Metis Nation.
The mill is open to the public and provides a glimpse of a real working flour mill. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable. The area surrounding Grant's Old Mill is perfect for picnics or just laying out in the sun.
We have two special events every summer. Cuthbert Grant Day the second Saturday in July and a Pioneer Picnic the second Saturday of August.
The museum is open 10:00 AM to 06:00 PM Tuesday to Sunday.
